Online Event Sign-Ups - 02/28/08

IEMS will now be using an online sign-up system for working events. From now on do not sign up in the binder. If you have signed up for an event in the last week or so make sure that we have you down for the correct event online.

To register: Start by hitting the “register” button at the top of the page. Your username should be either your real name, network ID, or if you are concerned about using those then use your IEMS badge number. Select any password you like. We will be unable to see your password. Use your uiuc email. We will not send you any emails from this message board, but it will help us identify who you are. Hide your email. For security purposes do not enter your real birthday. Use any birthday that is at least 18 years old. Hide your age as well. Follow the rest of the instructions on that page and create your account. Your account will not be active until we approve it. IEMS will be checking your eligibility and that you are actually a member. We try to get to all accounts within 24 hours so please be patient.

Airlife Ridealongs - 10/30/07

In order to do Airlife Ridealong time, you must take the safety and orientation course that Carle provides us at no charge. The first of these classes (it is a one-time class about 1 hour long) is going to be Monday, November 5th at 6pm. We are planning on having another class at a later point in time, to accommodate folks who have class or meetings Monday night, as well as overflow from the first class. We do not anticipate all interested and qualified individuals to be able to take this first class and we apologize.

In order to be eligible for this class you must be a cleared to lead EMT and in good standing with IEMS. This means you must have passed your critical skills for this semester and you also must take a protocol exam (during this school year). We are happy to administer these protocol exams for folks who still need them during the office hours of Ben Lantow, Steve Gutzmer ( sgutzme2@uiuc.edu) or Kurt Bloomstrand ( kblooms2@uiuc.edu). In addition, you also must have worked 1 operations event as an EMT and have been cleared by a supervisor or ops officer to work alone as a lead EMT.

Sign ups for this class will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Officers will begin signing up EMT's starting at approx 9am on 10/29. All EMT's will be allowed to sign up on this list and we will take as many as we can accommodate. IEMS reserves the right to not allow EMT's to participate based on the above eligibility requirements. These elegibility requirements will be checked as of FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2nd, so if you have not yet worked your first event you have until Friday to arrange to do so. Josh Zimmerman is this week's supervisor ( jzimmer3@uiuc.edu). The list will be taken down Friday at 5pm.

The first 20-30 EMT's that are signed up and eligible as of Friday at 5pm will be e-mailed by SUNDAY at 5pm with the exact location of the class, as well as with anything extra they should bring to class with them. The number of EMT's accepted to this first class will be decided at Carle's discretion. Please remember there will be another class at a later point in time so we can get other EMT's who have class or other commitments involved. Also do not get discouraged if you are 30 on the list, I do not know how many EMTs Carle will take yet and will not know until later in the week.

Topics Discussed:

Welcome to our new education equipment officer, David Jandura.

Due to issues that have arisen this year the Lead EMT Instructor contract will be revised prior to signing a new one for next semester.

The Merchandise Officer position is being modified. The new title will tentatively be Acquisitions Officer. Duties will include all previous duties but will expand to include order placement for Operations equipment and some Education equipment. This was done to equalize the work load of the merchandise position with that of other offices and to help relieve some responsibilities from the respective equipment officers.

An advanced web design class here on campus took on the project of redesigning the IEMS website this semester. The results were displayed at the meeting and a new template has been chosen. A few expanded versions will be presented before deciding on a final site. Implementation of the new site will come following the expanded designs.

Requirements
To join Illini EMS you do not need to have any certifications, but to work the two mandatory events per semester you will need to be at least CPR certified.  Only currently registered University of Illinois students, employed faculty, and staff are eligible for membership. Exceptions to this policy are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Executive Board. IEMS only accepts CPR certifications at the level of the American Heart Association’s Healthcare Provider and Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Other certifications at or near this level must be approved by the Director of Education. To ensure eligibility and good standing please review the checklists below:

CPR/First Responder Member Checklist:

1. Fill out Membership Card
2. Pay membership dues ($10 yearly)
3. Have a photo taken and get an ID card
4. Sign a Hepatitis B waiver
5. Sign up for a CPR class OR provide a copy of all relevant certifications and licenses
6. Buy an IEMS red polo to work the 2 required events per semester ($20)

EMT Member Checklist:

1. Complete all above requirements for CPR Members
2. Provide a copy of Illinois EMT State license AND current CPR card
3. Pass the Region 6 Protocol Exam
4. Complete one Critical Skills update per semester

How to Sign Up
To sign up for the organization, please bring a check (cash can only be accepted by some members of the Accounting Department) and a copy of all certifications to the IEMS office located in the RSO complex of the Illini Union between 9am and 5pm on weekdays University of Illinois classes are in session.  Illini EMS is operational only during the fall and spring semesters.

General member meetings will also be held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.  Membership dues and paperwork can also be collected at this time.

Our office is open weekdays from 9am-5pm when University of Illinois classes are in session during fall and spring semesters. Our office is closed on weekends, holidays and during the summer months. Our office is located in the RSO complex on the second floor of the Union. Room: 258 Illini Union. To get to the RSO complex take the stairs in the SW corner of the Union (on the quad side).
